The reduced protein and fat content is designed to meet the decreasing physical activity required with age. A higher proportion of Crude fiber ensures that the older dog can maintain or reduce its weight more easily with appropriate satiety when the recommended amount of food is observed.

The limited phosphorus and sodium content reduces the burden on the kidneys.
