Carnitine is the amino acid that is important for normal heart function and fat metabolism! L-carnitine has a key function in the metabolism and supports the conversion of fat into energy in terms of cell physiology. Carnitine is therefore crucial in the burning of fatty acids in dogs and cats. As a rule, sufficient amounts of carnitine are synthesized in the liver from the essential amino acids lysine and methionine.

Supplementation of carnitine may be appropriate under certain circumstances:

• Where there is an increased requirement, such as in sporting dogs due to increased physical activity.
• In diets that may not contain sufficient lysine and methionine, such as low-protein or vegetarian diets.
• When overweight animals lose weight rapidly, which can put a strain on the liver due to increased fat release. Here, carnitine can help to reduce the burden on the liver.
• In the case of certain diseases that impair the liver's carnitine production, additional administration is also advisable.

Futtermedicus Optisolo L-Carnitine is particularly recommended as a feed additive for barking and self-cooking feed rations. The L-carnitine powder is fine-grained and therefore easy to mix into the feed ration and is neutral in taste and odor. Due to its high concentration, the powder is very economical to use.
