JBL Cu ProAqua Copper Test
A healthy pond with natural conditions
The correct water parameters in a pond depend on the fish stock and the plants present. Even if the water looks clear, it can still be polluted. Poor water parameters can lead to diseases or algae growth in the pond. For a healthy pond with near-natural conditions, regular monitoring and adjustment of water parameters are important.
Why test?
Copper is a heavy metal that, on the one hand, is essential as a trace element for plant and animal organisms, but on the other hand, has a devastating effect as a cytotoxin in excessive concentrations. Copper usually enters ponds through heavy metals in tap water, metal objects in the water, or copper-containing gutters. Copper can be removed by effective water treatment systems. Copper can be used specifically to combat fish diseases.
Recommended copper level:
Copper should generally NOT be detectable in aquariums and ponds.
For invertebrates in freshwater and saltwater, any detectable level of copper is already lethal.
Only for medications containing copper is the therapeutic dose 0.3 mg/l, which should be adjusted and verified using the Cu Test.
Simple and safe monitoring of water parameters in aquariums/ponds. Determination of the optimal copper level for heavy metal control in freshwater and saltwater
. Application:
Daily for new setups; later when invertebrates or fish die, and when dosing medications
containing copper. Caution: Copper quickly forms water-insoluble compounds that settle on the bottom. The JBL PRO AQUATEST Cu detects only copper dissolved in the water.
- Rinse both test tubes several times with the water to be tested
- Using the included syringe, fill both test tubes with 5 ml of sample water each
- Add 5 drops of Reagent 1 to one of the test tubes and mix by swirling. Then add 5 drops of Reagent 2 and mix again. Let stand for 15 minutes until the color has fully developed.
- Place both test tubes in the gray comparator block: the tube with added reagent at the smooth end of the comparator block, the tube with untreated sample water (blank sample) at the notched end.
- Place the comparator block with the two test tubes on the color chart so that the notch faces the values, and slide it along the color chart until the color of the sample with added reagent matches the color below the blank sample as closely as possible.
- Read the copper content in the notch of the comparator.
Correction of deviating values:
Too low: The value should always remain below the detection limit (except
in cases of targeted treatment).
Too high: Regular use of JBL water conditioners such as Biotopol
or filtration using JBL high-performance activated carbon. Water-insoluble copper compounds can only be removed by discarding the entire substrate.
Use biocides with caution. Always read the label and product information before use.
