JBL O2 ProAqua Oxygen Test Kit

A healthy pond with natural conditions
The correct water parameters in the pond depend on the fish population and the plants present. Even if the water looks clear, it may still be contaminated. Poor water parameters can lead to diseases or algae growth in the pond. For a healthy pond with natural conditions, regular monitoring and adjustment of water parameters are important.

For every water analysis, JBL offers water tests in the form of rapid tests or color-change tests. These determine a specific value or multiple values simultaneously. With these water tests, algae problems can be detected and negative nitrate, nitrite, potassium, magnesium levels, etc., can be identified.

Why test:
Maintaining a suitable O2 level as consistently as possible is an important prerequisite for the well-being of aquarium and pond inhabitants, as well as for the flourishing of aquatic plants. Oxygen is the “elixir of life” for all animal organisms. All animals in the aquarium and pond need oxygen to breathe. But even the more “invisible helpers” in the aquarium and pond—the bacteria that break down pollutants—depend on sufficient oxygen levels to carry out their beneficial work. In aquariums and ponds with little or no vegetation, as well as in saltwater aquariums, the oxygen level should always be maintained at the appropriate equilibrium value using technical equipment.
Water absorbs oxygen through its surface. The more the surface is agitated, the more oxygen is absorbed. Dying algae and the use of many medications have a negative effect on the oxygen content in the water.

Procedure:

  1. Rinse the measuring vessel several times with the water to be tested.
  2. Fill the measuring vessel to the brim with the water to be tested by submerging it, and place it on a waterproof surface.
  3. Slowly add 6 drops of O2 Reagent 1 and 6 drops of O2 Reagent 2 one after the other. The measuring vessel will overflow during this process.
  4. Seal the measuring vessel with the enclosed cap, ensuring no air bubbles remain, and shake vigorously for approx. 30 seconds.
  5. Remove the cap from the measuring vessel and add 6 drops of O2 Reagent 3.
  6. Seal the measuring vessel again (trapped bubbles no longer matter) and shake vigorously for approx. 30 seconds. Let stand for 10 minutes until the color has fully developed.
  7. Move the measuring vessel horizontally at a distance of approx. 3–5 cm above the white section of the color chart and select the color with the best possible match.
  8. Read the oxygen content at the corresponding color field.

Correction of deviating values:
Too low: Add more plants and/or improve the care of existing plants, e.g., by installing a CO2 supply (JBL ProFlora CO2 Set). Improve aeration, e.g., with a JBL ProSilent air pump and/or improve water movement at the surface using flow pumps, protein skimmers (saltwater) or, for garden ponds, with more powerful pumps (pond filters) in combination with a waterfall or stream.
Too high: Not applicable.

Use biocides with caution. Always read the label and product information before use.

Hazard statements:
H314 Causes severe skin burns and serious eye damage.
H373 May cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure.
H412 Harmful to aquatic life with long-lasting effects.
