KERALIT Huf-Festiger
KERALIT Huf-Festiger is an innovative care product for horse hooves that protects and strengthens the horn against damage. It acts directly on critical areas such as the bearing edge, nail holes, white line, and sole, where horn-degrading bacteria, fungi, and harmful substances can attack and weaken the horn.
KERALIT Huf-Festiger contains proteins that strengthen the keratin in the horn and form new bonds, making the horn more durable and elastic. The product is easy to apply and can be used on both shod and barefoot horses.
With KERALIT Huf-Festiger, you can improve the horn quality of your horse and prevent or reduce hoof problems such as cracks, chipping, thrush, inflammations, or loose shoes.
The hoof hardener is simply applied to the hoof using a bristle brush.

"Der einzige nach Gefahrstoffverordnung zu deklarierende Bestandteil ist der Glutaraldehyd. Weiter sind Gerbstoffe enthalten, welche ebenfalls eine proteinstabilisierende Wirkung haben. Der pH-Wert wird durch diese Stoffe gepuffert im sauren Milieu gehalten, dadurch können sich hornzersetzende Bakterien und Pilze nicht vermehren bzw. Stoffwechsel betreiben.
Das Horn der Hufe besteht zu einem hohen Anteil aus Keratin, einem schwefelhaltigen Gerüstprotein. Durch die Behandlung mit dem Huffestiger wird das Horn stabilisiert und für Bakterien und Pilze unverdaulich. Die Wirkungsweise ist ähnlich einem Nagelfestiger in der Humankosmetik. Zwischen den Proteinketten werden zusätzlich Bindungen durch Quervernetzung gebildet (crosslinking). Dadurch wird die mechanische Stabilität erhöht und das Horn eben unverdaulich für die hornzersetzenden Keime. Die Enzyme der Keime passen dann nicht mehr zum zu verdauenden Protein.
Bei einer Anwendung des Huffestigers nach Gebrauchsanleitung (also Huffestiger nicht Trinken, Füttern, auf Haut, Wunden oder in die Augen bringen) ist die Verwendung am Huf auch auf Dauer ungefährlich. In einer Dissertation der tierärztlichen Hochschule Zürich wurde die Eindringtiefe von 0,4mm am intakten Horn gemessen. Der Huffestiger wird in der auch Ihnen vorliegenden Form von tierärztlichen Hochschulen und Lehrbeschlagschmieden empfohlen und verwendet. Der Huffestiger gibt es seit fast 30 Jahren."
