Kobre®San Winter Line is a sinking winter food with a grain size of 4.5mm.

During the cold season, koi need high-quality, easily digestible food. As the fish stay at the bottom of the pond at this time of year and their metabolism is already very slowed down, sinking food must be used so that the koi do not expend unnecessary energy to reach the surface.

If feeding is stopped completely in winter, the koi often suffer from EMS (energy deficiency syndrome) in spring, which in the worst case could even lead to death.
The effects of EMS often only become apparent in spring, as the fish then have too little energy to adapt their metabolism to the higher water temperatures. As a result, the mortality rate increases dramatically in spring for fish that have not been fed in winter. If koi are not fed at all for several months, this inevitably has a negative effect on their condition and well-being.

Although the fish eat little or not at all on some days, this can change again the following day. As most ponds are not very deep, we have to deal with extreme temperature fluctuations, especially in the transitional periods. If the temperature is below 5 degrees, the fish do not eat. However, if the temperature rises by just 1 degree, the koi become active again and need energy accordingly.

The following applies to feeding in winter:
Only feed during the day, as little or no food is consumed in the evening and so the food remains at the bottom of the pond, causing unnecessary stress on the water values and filtration.
