Dog first aid kit and medicine cabinet
Minor everyday accidents can happen to your dog at any time: cuts, irritations, digestive issues, poisoning or parasites. Having a first aid kit for your dog allows you to act quickly and limit complications while waiting, if necessary, for a veterinary consultation.
A well-equipped dog medicine cabinet brings together the essentials to handle the most common situations:
- Products for wounds and minor injuries: antiseptics, gauze pads, bandages, soothing and healing creams and solutions,
- Treatments for digestive disorders or in case of ingestion of a toxic substance,
- Care for eyes and ears,
- First aid accessories: tick remover, gloves, thermometer, scissors.
Handy at home and on the go, a compact first aid kit allows you to respond quickly in an emergency and ensure the well-being of your companion.
First aid products are not a substitute for veterinary advice, but they are an essential first response in an emergency.

Choosing and using your dog first aid kit
A dog first aid kit should be tailored to your animal's needs and your lifestyle. An active dog that accompanies you on hikes or travels will have different needs than a dog living primarily indoors. A long-haired dog, for example, will require round-tipped scissors to clear a wound before cleaning it, which is not necessary for a short-haired dog. The key is to have products that are simple, effective and easy to use in an emergency — even under stress.
Practical tips from our veterinarians
In case of a wound, start by trimming the surrounding fur if necessary, then rinse the area thoroughly with clean water before disinfecting. Avoid pure alcohol and concentrated hydrogen peroxide, as these irritate tissue and slow healing — opt instead for a gentle animal-friendly antiseptic (such as chlorhexidine). If the wound is deep, bleeding heavily or not healing within a few days, a veterinary visit is essential.
If you suspect your dog has ingested a toxic substance, contact your veterinarian immediately and call the poison control centre at 145.
Ticks should be removed as soon as possible using an appropriate tick remover — without excessive twisting or jerking, and without applying any substance (ether, oil) beforehand, as this could cause the tick's contents to be pushed into the wound. Watch our how-to video here.
It is also recommended to regularly check the contents of your dog's medicine cabinet: expiry dates, condition of packaging and available quantities. Certain products, such as antiseptics or digestive supplements, should be replaced periodically to ensure their effectiveness.
A well-prepared first aid kit saves valuable time and allows you to provide initial care for your dog under the best possible conditions. It is an indispensable addition to your everyday equipment — both at home and when travelling.
If in doubt, if symptoms worsen, or if you are concerned about your dog's condition, it is always advisable to consult a veterinarian promptly.
