What is tested?

The gut flora test examines the composition of microorganisms in your pet’s gut.

It shows whether the gut flora is in balance or if dysbiosis is present—that is, an imbalance between “good” and “bad” bacteria.

In the lab, the quantity and distribution of important bacterial and fungal groups are analyzed, including:

• Escherichia coli (E. coli): protects the intestinal mucosa and supports the immune system
• Enterococcus spp. (enterococci): stabilizes the gut flora
• Clostridium spp.: produces beneficial fatty acids, but can promote inflammation if overgrown

How is the test evaluated?

The submitted fecal sample is microbiologically analyzed in a specialized laboratory. During this process, the relevant bacterial and fungal groups are quantified and compared to reference values for healthy animals.

The results show:

• whether dysbiosis is present
