Long-haired indoor cats
- The reduced activity can restrict the intestinal motor function. This can result in digestive problems such as soft and unpleasant smelling stools.
- Indoor cats spend a lot of time grooming. During grooming, a significant amount of hair is shed, of which about 2/3 is swallowed. The large amount of coat swallowed and the length of the hair favors the development of hairballs.
- Hair consists of 95% protein. A precise diet is necessary for optimum coat quality. A lack of nutrients can impair the shedding process and lead to a dry, dull, brittle and limp coat.
- Living indoors reduces the cat's activity level. Energy intake from food should therefore be moderate in order to maintain the ideal weight.
