Nitrite (NO₂⁻) is a toxic intermediate product in the natural nitrogen cycle that is produced when ammonia from fish waste or uneaten food is broken down by bacteria. Even small amounts of nitrite can be harmful to fish and impair their breathing and overall health.

With the Tetra Test NO₂⁻, elevated nitrite concentrations can be detected early on, before they cause stress or disease in your aquarium inhabitants.
