Omega-3 fatty acids
Fish is a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are known to support healthy skin. Healthy skin promotes the growth of hair follicles and provides a shiny, glossy and lustrous coat.
Omega-3 fatty acids are also crucial for your cat's healthy brain function, growth and development, especially in kittens. They also play an important role in the proper functioning of your pet's blood vessels, heart, immune system and lungs.
Taurine
An amino acid and one of the building blocks of all proteins. Required for the maintenance of normal vision, digestion, heart muscle function and a healthy immune system. Cats need taurine exclusively through their food. All animal proteins are an excellent source.
Glucosamine and chondroitin
Glucosamine is a combination of glucose, a sugar, and glutamine, an amino acid. It contributes to the formation and repair of cartilage. Together they are ideal for building healthy joints and counteracting the breakdown of joint tissue - especially important for our older pets and young animals. Beef, lamb, poultry and bones are a good source of these nutrients.
Calcium
Calcium helps to build and maintain strong bones. It is also needed for the heart, muscles and nerves to function properly. In the wild, cats would eat bones as well as meat to get the calcium they need.
Phosphorus
Phosphorus is important for the formation of bones and teeth and is therefore essential for kittens. It is needed to form proteins so that the body can grow, repair and maintain its cells. Phosphorus also helps the body make ATP, a molecule the body uses to store energy. Phosphorus is found in bony raw materials, which is why ZIWI Peak's recipes contain ground bone.
Because ZIWI Peak is so rich in nutrients, you may need to feed less volume compared to other foods.
Switching to ZIWI
A sudden change in diet or overfeeding can lead to digestive problems. ZIWI Peak is very rich in nutrients. A small amount is sufficient, so don't be surprised if you feed less! Introduce a new formula slowly over a period of 6-8 days by gradually increasing the amount of the new formula and reducing the old one until you have completed the changeover.
Types of feeding
For optimal health, Ziwi recommends feeding 100% ZIWI Peak. However, if you wish to feed ZIWI Peak with another food such as raw meat, kibble, freeze-dried food, canned food or another type of food, you can do so in any ratio. ZIWI Peak can be fed in many different ways: as the sole daily food for your pet, as a nutritious supplement to your existing food or as a tasty treat.
Storage advice
ZIWI Peak recommends feeding the air-dried food before the printed best-before date and within 8 weeks of opening the pack, but these dates are intended as a guide. If the product is not stored in its sealed bag, it may be exposed to air and/or Moisture, which could cause the food to become dry and brittle or mold to form, both of which would be an indication that the food has not been stored properly and should no longer be consumed by your pet.
