Dietary fiber
Green vegetables are rich in fiber, which supports healthy digestion. Include spinach, kale, green beans and beet, which are rich in vitamins and minerals as well as fiber.
Including fiber in your dog's daily food bowl helps to regulate the bowels, improve consistency and prevent constipation and loose stools. Fiber can improve the absorption of nutrients and regulate blood sugar levels.
Inulin
Chicory root is a source of inulin, a natural prebiotic that can promote the growth of good bacteria in the gut. When the digestive tract is filled with good bacteria, nutrients are more easily absorbed and distributed throughout the body.
Glucosamine and chondroitin
Glucosamine is a combination of glucose, a sugar, and glutamine, an amino acid. It contributes to the formation and repair of cartilage. Together they are ideal for building healthy joints and counteracting the breakdown of joint tissue - especially important for our older pets and puppies. Beef, lamb, poultry and bones are a good source of these nutrients.
Omega-3 fatty acids
Omega-3 fatty acids are found throughout the body, especially in the brain and eyes. These nutrients are crucial for healthy brain function, growth and development, especially in puppies.
They also play an important role in the proper functioning of your dog's blood vessels, heart, immune system and lungs. Omega-3 fatty acids also support healthy skin and coat.
Calcium
Calcium helps to build and maintain strong bones. It is also needed for the heart, muscles and nerves to function properly. In the wild, cats and dogs would eat bones as well as meat to get the calcium they need.
Phosphorus
Phosphorus is essential for the formation of bones and teeth, which is very important for young puppies and kittens. It is needed for the formation of proteins so that the body can grow, repair and maintain its cells. Phosphorus also helps the body make ATP, a molecule the body uses to store energy. Phosphorus is found in bony raw materials, which is why ZIWI Peak recipes contain ground bone.
Because ZIWI Peak is so rich in nutrients, you may need to feed less volume compared to other foods.
Switching to ZIWI
A sudden change in diet or overfeeding can lead to digestive problems. ZIWI Peak is very rich in nutrients. A small amount is sufficient, so don't be surprised if you feed less! Introduce a new formula slowly over a period of 6-8 days by gradually increasing the amount of the new formula and reducing the old one until you have completed the changeover.
Types of feeding
For optimal health, Ziwi recommends feeding 100% ZIWI Peak. However, if you wish to feed ZIWI Peak with another food such as raw meat, kibble, freeze-dried food, canned food or another type of food, you can do so in any ratio. ZIWI Peak can be fed in many different ways: as the sole daily food for your pet, as a nutritious supplement to your existing food or as a tasty treat.
Storage advice
ZIWI Peak recommends feeding the air-dried food before the printed best-before date and within 8 weeks of opening the pack, but these dates are intended as a guide. If the product is not stored in its sealed bag, it may be exposed to air and/or Moisture, which could cause the food to become dry and brittle or mold to form, both of which would be an indication that the food has not been stored properly and should no longer be consumed by your pet.
