Dogs and cats are frequently infested by ticks, fleas and mites. These parasites are not only annoying, they can also be carriers of serious diseases. They can multiply rapidly in homes and also infest us humans. It is therefore important to protect our pets from infestation with effective prophylaxis!

How can I protect my pet from parasites?

1. Prevention
Effective parasite protection starts with effective prevention of an infestation. Spot-on preparations, collars or sprays with a repellent effect are suitable for this.

2. control
During the tick season, dogs and cats must be checked daily for ticks. Check your pet's skin and coat regularly throughout the year to detect flea or mite infestations at an early stage. If you find an increase in dark crumbs in the coat, this could be flea excrement. If these crumbs turn red when rubbed with a white, damp cloth, then they are clearly flea droppings.

3. removal
In the case of tick infestation, the tick should be removed as quickly as possible using tick tweezers or a tick hook while pulling continuously. The tick should not be twisted and oil should not be applied beforehand.

In the case of a flea infestation, not only the animal itself (e.g. with flea powder) but also the surrounding area (e.g. with a flea mist) must be treated. If in doubt, seek advice from your vet. As fleas can be carriers of tapeworms, simultaneous deworming is usually also recommended. As treating a flea infestation is time-consuming and expensive, preventative protection is particularly important.
