Lunderland Horse Meat Can
Lunderland—feed responsibly!
Fresh horse meat.
Lunderland canned meat is part of a meat-based diet for dogs and cats following the BARF method.
Meat is the main component of a healthy and species-appropriate diet for dogs and cats, but should be supplemented with carbohydrates, among other things.
Lunderland Canned Meat:
- 100% horse meat
- A cut of meat from a single animal species
- Single-protein; suitable for pets with allergies
The total amount of food required (meat and supplements) depends heavily on age, breed, and living conditions.
Depending on size, age, breed, and living conditions, feed approximately 1/3 vegetables to 2/3 meat per meal. The total amount of food should be about 2.5–3% of the dog’s body weight.
The meat cans are 100% fully declared. Aside from the declared meat cuts, no by-products are cooked into the can. The protein and fat content in the cans correspond to the natural values of the raw ingredients. No fats or other protein sources are added.
The extremely low levels of crude fiber and crude ash confirm that no fillers were used.
Of course, our cans are free of artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives and contain no synthetic vitamins or minerals.
To put it simply: What isn’t listed on the label isn’t in the can, and what is listed on the label is in the can.
All Lunderland meat cans should be supplemented with a calcium supplement (e.g., Lunderland Algae Calcium or Lunderland Organic Eggshell Meal), as well as with plant-based products (e.g., Lunderland Flake Mixes) and oils (cod liver oil, salmon oil, evening primrose oil, borage oil, flaxseed oil, and hemp oil). Cats should also be given green-lipped mussel powder to meet their taurine needs.
Lunderland, based in Lüchow, Germany, emphasizes personal responsibility when it comes to feeding dogs and cats: Lunderland’s line of pet foods is aimed at pet owners who do not want to feed their pets complete and balanced commercial diets.
Lunderland is convinced that a healthy diet is always a varied one and is based on foods that are as fresh and unprocessed as possible.
Meat is the main component of a healthy and species-appropriate diet for dogs and cats, but should be supplemented with carbohydrates, among other things. The total amount of food required (meat and supplements) depends heavily on age, breed, and living conditions. Depending on size, age, breed, and living conditions, feed approximately 1/3 vegetables to 2/3 meat per meal.
The total amount of food should be about 2.5–3% of the pet’s body weight.
Lunderland cans are produced without emulsifiers, stabilizers, salt, protein extracts, or added fats. Any moisture or fats that may seep out of the processed meat are not hidden but remain visible, just as you would see when canning at home. Both of these natural components of the meat should be fed to your dog.
Lunderland recommends the following diet composition:
a) Puppies: Due to high protein requirements during growth, approx. 80% meat, 20% grains and vegetables (wet weight).
b) Adult animals: Approx. 60%–70% meat, approx. 30%–40% grains and vegetables (wet weight).
c) Senior pets: Older pets may have lower protein requirements (due, among other things, to reduced activity). In this case, we recommend the following diet for seniors: approx. 50% meat, 50% grains and vegetables (wet weight). If your pet remains fit and active even in old age, protein intake does not necessarily need to be reduced; however, in this case, it is advisable to feed high-quality and easily digestible protein. In addition to meat, grains, and vegetables, treat your pet to some fruit as well!
You can feed grains in the form of flakes that you soak in hot water or broth. You can also feed cooked rice or pasta (both whole grain!). The rice grains should be crushed, as some animals will otherwise excrete them undigested.
Many commercially available mixed flakes are marketed as containing “vegetables,” but we consider a vegetable content of less than 10% to be too low. If you use such flakes, we recommend supplementing the diet with additional vegetables. You can also enhance them with vegetable flakes or dried vegetables. A ready-made grain/vegetable mix should ideally consist of at least 20% vegetables.
Suitable vegetables include cooked potatoes, beets, carrots, and legumes (beans, lentils, peas). Legumes must be crushed or flaked, as they will otherwise be excreted undigested. You can also feed carrots raw, finely grated into the meat. Finely chopped spinach is also recommended.
Many fruits, especially berries, are part of the diet of wolves and wild dogs. Many dogs enjoy raspberries, blackberries, fully ripe gooseberries, and even apples or pears.
If feeding our canned cans on a long-term basis, they should be supplemented with a calcium supplement and natural vitamin sources, as the vitamins are degraded during pressure cooking (autoclaving). Suitable options include: cod liver oil or raw beef liver (vitamins A and D3), Lunderland brewer’s yeast (vitamin B complex), as well as possibly Lunderland rosehip peel (vitamin C) and a suitable organic vegetable oil from the first cold press (vitamin E).
