Properties:

The phosphorus content is reduced to prevent hyperphosphatemia and slow the progression of Renal insufficiency.

EPA and DHA are omega-3 fatty acids that help slow the progression of Renal insufficiency in kidney patients. In cats with heart disease, omega-3 fatty acids counteract cachexia and reduce hypertension and platelet aggregation.

The reduced protein content, combined with the high biological value of the proteins, reduces azotemia in kidney patients. In cats with liver failure, the likelihood of hyperammonemia and possible hepatic encephalopathy is also reduced. The high-quality protein meets the patient’s need for essential amino acids.

In congestive heart failure, sodium excretion is reduced to compensate for the reduced stroke volume, which directly results in sodium and water retention. The reduced sodium content helps break this vicious cycle of water retention (hypertension and edema).

The low protein content reduces the urinary concentration of oxalate, cystine, and urate. The resulting slightly alkaline urine pH counteracts the precipitation of urate and cystine crystals. The presence of additional potassium citrate reduces the risk of calcium oxalate precipitation.
