TRM Chelated Copper & Vitamin E
TRM’s Chelated Copper products are formulated to provide horses with copper in an easily absorbable form and combine the trace element copper with amino acids. This process increases the absorption of copper through the intestinal wall into the horse’s body. This product line is particularly valuable for feeding broodmares and young horses.
Copper plays a role in bone development and the maintenance of elastic connective tissue. TRM’s CHELATED COPPER is the best form of copper supplementation for horses. CHELATED COPPER is an organic compound in which the metal ion (Cu++) is surrounded by and bound to organic material (in this case, amino acids). Copper must be present in a neutral and stable form in order to be absorbed.
Factors that inhibit copper absorption from natural feed (grass, hay, grain):
- Soil pH: too acidic or too alkaline
- Excess zinc
- Excess phosphate (contaminants from fertilizers)
- Excess vitamin C
- Leached soil
- Soil moisture content
- Maturity and/or type of crops grown
Disorders caused by copper deficiency
- Blood: Anemia is a well-known condition in animals. Copper is required as an enzymatic component for the formation of red blood cells.
- Blood vessels: Copper deficiency can lead to tears in the aorta or the main artery of the uterus, particularly in older mares after foaling.
- Bones: Bone abnormalities occur in nearly all animals with copper deficiency, particularly in young animals.
- Nerve Cells: Demyelination (degenerative destruction; Ed.) is a hallmark of copper deficiency.
- Hair and coat: Dullness and coarseness in the hair and coat.
- Copper is essential for life. It is required for at least 12 known metalloproteins.
Information regarding the doping relevance of our products is based on the manufacturer’s specifications and is not updated regularly. The assessment was based in particular on the list of doping-relevant substances published by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI). However, it should be noted that national doping regulations may differ from these international guidelines. Furthermore, doping-related information—particularly regarding plant-based ingredients—is subject to constant change. For this reason, we recommend that you stay informed about the latest developments in equestrian sports by consulting the FEI’s list of prohibited substances.
