Purina Canine NC Neurocare is a dry food for adult and senior dogs to support brain function

PURINA® PRO PLAN® Canine NC NeuroCare is the first food containing 6.5% medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) and clinically proven neuroprotective nutrients to improve brain function and support cognitive function in adult and senior dogs.

Recent studies have shown that certain components of a dog's diet can have positive effects on brain function. Certain specific nutrients, such as medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), have been shown to support brain and cognitive function in dogs.

What energy source does the brain use?
The brain is one of the organs that requires the most energy. Did you know that a single gram of the human brain uses the same amount of energy in one minute as the leg muscles of a man running a full marathon?

Under normal conditions:
Glucose is the brain's main source of energy and is also very important for brain development. To maintain optimal brain function, the brain therefore requires a high glucose supply, which is usually achieved through a wholesome and balanced diet.

With less efficient carbohydrate metabolism:
Under certain conditions, the brain requires additional energy that cannot be adequately supplied by glucose alone. In these situations, it is helpful for the dog to consume different energy sources that the brain can use, e.g. fatty acids.

Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) are a specific type of fatty acid that can be easily metabolized by dogs to provide an alternative source of energy for the brain when needed.
