+ Indications:

• Chronic Renal insufficiency
• Liver failure (except cholestasis patients)
• Congestive heart failure, hypertension, edema
• Urate, oxalate or cystine urolithiasis

- Contraindications:

• Puppies, pregnant or lactating bitches
• Dogs with a relatively high protein requirement
• Patients with cholestasis: a diet with reduced fat content (such as SPECIFIC weight-reduction diets or SPECIFIC senior diets) is more suitable
• Dogs with struvite urolithiasis
• Dogs with hyperlipidemia or pancreatitis

Properties:

The phosphorus content is reduced to prevent hyperphosphatemia and slow the progression of Renal insufficiency.

The EPA and DHA content is exceptionally high in Specific CKW Heart & Kidney Support. EPA and DHA are omega-3 fatty acids that help slow the progression of Renal insufficiency in kidney patients. In dogs with heart disease, omega-3 fatty acids counteract cachexia and reduce hypertension and platelet aggregation.

The reduced protein content, combined with the high biological value of the proteins and the alkaline pH, reduces azotemia in kidney patients. In dogs with hepatic insufficiency, the likelihood of hyperamonemia and possible hepatic encephalopathy is also reduced. The high-quality protein meets the patient's need for essential amino acids.

In congestive heart failure, sodium excretion is reduced to compensate for the reduced stroke volume, which directly results in sodium and water retention. The reduced sodium content in SPECIFIC™ Heart & Kidney Support helps to break the vicious cycle of water retention to support the nutritional management of congestive heart failure, edema and hypertension.

The low protein content reduces the concentration of oxalate, cystine and urate in the urine. The induced, slightly alkaline urine pH value combats the precipitation of calcium oxalate, urate and especially cystine crystals. The presence of K-citrate reduces the risk of calcium oxalate precipitation.
