Every dog and cat owner knows the problem: Our beloved pets shed hair and spread it on furniture, carpets, and clothes. We've tested which tools are best for removing hair.
Now in autumn, our dogs and cats are going through another coat change, and the problem is particularly severe. But actually, our feline friends especially shed hair all year round, so we constantly struggle to keep our home and clothes reasonably hair-free. That's why we've tested various hair removal methods and present our results here.
Prevention is better!
Of course, the pet hair problem can also be mitigated by prevention. This means that our furry friends, especially during coat change, should be brushed regularly. Special combs for removing undercoat for long- and short-haired animals are especially effective here. While most dogs adore being brushed, many cats aren't always keen on this routine. However, our cats have gotten used to being brushed on the sofa in the evenings. They even like it very much now – but it's unavoidable that the sofa is full of cat hair afterwards!
Pet Hair Removers in Test
We tested the various tools on different materials that we most often find covered in pet hair. This is our personal, honest assessment of the products – we did not conduct standardized measurements. We assign ratings from --- (very poor) to +++ (excellent).

Our favorite – it quickly removes long and fine hairs from all clothes and furniture, and is super easy to clean itself without much effort. |

Our favorite for short hairs that tend to stick, especially on hard surfaces. You have to apply quite a bit of pressure for it to work properly.

Works well on furniture and carpets – but it takes a long time for large areas, and it also requires some effort to pull the hairs out of the fabric.

Swisspet Dog and Cat Hair Roller blue

Ideal for clothes – however, only for small areas and when relatively few hairs need to be removed. Otherwise, there's a lot of unnecessary waste because the adhesive surface is immediately full of hair and has to be torn off. I always have one of these rollers in my handbag for on the go.

Removes hair well, creates less waste than the adhesive tape roller – however, it's only useful when small areas with few hairs need to be cleaned, because the roller has to dry after washing before it's ready for use again.

Despite the many helpful tools available, in our experience, the pet hair problem can only be managed, not entirely eradicated. That's why in our family, we still have our little 'catchphrase' when leaving the house: "Wait, you still have a hair there!" :)
