The role of dietary treatment in struvite-related lower urinary tract disease (LUTD) in dogs is to provide a balanced ratio of all nutrients while meeting the specific dietary needs of the patient.
Indications
- For the dissolution and prophylaxis of struvite stones

- Urine acidification - reduces struvite crystals and urinary stone formation
- Increased potassium content - avoids risks of hypokalemia
- High digestibility - to compensate for loss of appetite in some dogs
A diet that promotes acidification of the urine can help to reduce the formation of struvite crystals and stones. As not all cases of lower urinary tract disease in dogs are associated with struvite crystals or stones, it is important to carry out appropriate diagnostic tests before implementing dietary treatment.
