What to do if a cat with kidney disease won't eat the diet?
Cats with Renal insufficiency often suffer from nausea and vomiting and therefore have no appetite. Wait until the cat has convalesced sufficiently to eat again before switching to the diet.
It is important that the changeover to the new food takes place over a longer period of time. The old food should be mixed with an increasing proportion of the diet food. older cats sometimes need up to 4 weeks to accept the new food.
The cats should be given the diet food as dry or wet food or a combination of both, depending on what they prefer to eat.
Fortunately, the choice of different kidney diets is now so wide that the right food can usually be found for every kidney patient!
