What is chronic kidney disease?
During your pet's examination by your veterinarian, it may turn out that chronic kidney disease is present, even though no obvious symptoms are noticeable. Such a disease is quite common in older cats and dogs. The cause is a deterioration in renal function, for which there can be many different reasons, such as a congenital malformation of the kidneys, an infection or inflammation, poisoning etc.
The kidneys function like a factory in which substances are filtered and recycled for reuse in the organism.

What are the effects on your pet's body?
Chronic kidney disease is hardly noticeable in the early stages and only produces visible symptoms in the advanced stages. You may notice that your cat or dog suddenly drinks more than before, shows a frequent urge to urinate and has less and less appetite.
What causes these symptoms?

How you can maintain your four-legged friend's quality of life:
- Feed a renal diet that has been recommended by your veterinarian. This allows you to support your pet's renal function.
- Encourage your pet to drink by always providing fresh, clean water. Feeding a wet food is also good support.
- Stimulate the appetite! Offer your four-legged friend a tasty diet food with an attractive smell and special texture. This ensures that sufficient food is intake, even if there is a food aversion.
