Is grain in dog food unhealthy?

Flatulence and indigestion can only occur if the grain content exceeds 60%. Cereals are an important source of energy and contain many essential fatty acids as well as high amounts of trace elements, vitamins and minerals. Which dogs benefit from grain-free dog food?

Dogs with a hypersensitivity to grains or gluten in particular can benefit from grain-free dog food. As a substitute, potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkin and special vegetables provide the necessary nutrients (fiber, vitamins, carbohydrates and minerals).

Grain-free dog food can be fed to both puppies and adult dogs. For senior dogs, care should be taken to ensure that the protein content of the food is not too high, as this can put a strain on the kidneys.
